The 3rd Generation Wake

One of the Philippines' top mobile communications provider, SMART, will formally launch its 3G service this May. Click here to see the article.

What's most interesting for me (who has no 3G phone and has no future plans of acquiring one as of yet) is that 2.5G services are being caught in the 3G wave, and it's a good thing. One good thing that came out of this is that SMART GPRS services will now be billed 10 php for every 30 minutes of surfing irregardless of downloaded file size, from a 25 cent/Kb before. And MMS just got cheaper from 5 php to 2 php per message sent!

Sweet deal! Now I'm just praying that the people at the Palace will not unearth that crazy SMS government tax zombie that plagued this country with its rotten stench years ago.
